CLAREMONT DAY NURSERY - KENSINGTON BRANCH 1550 Oakview Avenue, Kensington, CA 94707 (510) 526-1010
Claremont Day Nursery, Kensington Branch, was opened nearly 40 years ago in 1960. Our current Head Teacher started with two children!
The school site was once a Dairy Farm, where ice cream was made and milk was sold. Grandparents of a recently enrolled child used to work at this dairy.
Claremont Day Nurseries took over the property after it was made into a clubhouse or meeting place for the church that once occupied the corner (where Cafe Select currently operates).
The school used to accommodate mainly UC Berkeley parents, but soon became more mainstream and now accommodates all parents and all backgrounds. Children range in age from 2 - 6 years.
There are five age-determined groups. The "Bunnies" (our 2 year old group) function almost independently from the rest of the school.
This group has its own tucked-away space leading to its own play yard, which has equipment just right for a two year old. Children move from one group to the next when they are developmentally ready.
The pre-Kindergarten group is taught by a teacher who has worked with our children for over 18 years.
The Kensington Branch is licensed to enroll 65 children. We are very much a traditional style program - lots of signing, art, learning, and play.
We provide transportation to and from neighboring schools for our school aged children. Our six well qualified teachers are each professionally talented and loving.
We enjoy a strong staff consistency and commitment, where our teachers work together on a permanent basis. Our site director has worked at the school long enough to enroll the children of some "graduates".
And are they ever surprised and delighted to learn that this teacher is still there to provide the loving care that they remember.
